Eustachius J. (Gus) Duchschere, of Fargo, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at
Merit-Care Hospital in Fargo of an apparent heart attack. He was 70.
For more than 30 years Duchschere was an aviation technician and supervisor at
the North Dakota Air National Guard in Fargo, where he directed the operation
of several maintenance shops. He retired in 1989 with the rank of senior
master sergeant.
He was born Dec. 31, 1933 in Rugby, N.D., to Charles and Frances Duchscher,
and grew up on the family farm south of town. After graduating from Rugby High
School in 1952, Duchschere enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served for
three years, specializing in
aviation maintenance. He joined the Air Guard in 1958 after working two years
for Capitol Airlines in Washington, D.C. and Minneapolis.
In 1957 he married Dorothy Steinbach at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo. She
survives him, along with three sons, Kevin Duchschere, of St. Paul; Kyle
(Beth) Duchschere, of Chanhassen, Minn.; and the Rev. Paul Duchschere, of
Fargo; and four grandchildren, Jacqueline and Jennifer, both of St. Paul, and
Claire and Charles, both of Chanhassen. He is also survived by brothers, Chris
Duchschere, of Fargo, and John (Bernie) Duchscher, of Rugby; and sis
ters Johanna (Ludwig) Hoffert, of Rugby; Carolyn VanRaden, of Fargo; Catherine
(Ken) Deeter, of Tucson; Vernice (Bill) Knutson, of Pauma Valley, Cal.; and
Anna Mae (Russ) Bezanson, of Minot, N.D. He was preceded in death by his
parents, a sister and six brothers, including Herman Duchscher, of Fargo, last
week.
Memorials are preferred to the Father John P. Smith Foundation, Holy Spirit
Church, Fargo.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Church of the Holy Spirit, 1420 7th
Street N., Fargo. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St.
Paul's Newman Center, 1141 University Drive N., Fargo. Visitation will be from
6:15-7 p.m. Wednesday in St.
Paul's Newman Center, and from 12-1 p.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will
be at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.
