maiden name

Robert “Bob” Haas, 62, Mandan, died unexpectedly on Feb. 16, 2010. Mass of
Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Spirit of Life
Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Burial
will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors
provided by the VFW Post 707 and American Legion Post 40.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home,
Mandan, with a parish rosary/vigil at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour
prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Bob was born July 9, 1947, in Mandan to Rueben and Margaret (Schmidt) Haas. He
proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1967 and in the National Guard
for 20 years. Bob was a Deputy Sheriff for many years until an injury forced
him to retire. He then drove cross country on an 18-wheeler. Bob married
Sandra Kraft in 2000.
Bob lived life to the fullest, relishing the quiet moments. He loved being
outdoors fishing and enjoying the beauty of the sunsets at Fort Lincoln State
Park. His low keyed manner would allow him greater enjoyment being around
friends, whether it was watching a Vikings game or playing a game of cards. An
avid fan of western movies, combined with war documentaries on the Discovery
channel, expanded his knowledge of the country he loved. Although he did not
want to spend much time preparing food, Bob enjoyed sharing a good meal with
family. Being a proud veteran and dedicated to his profession in law
enforcement leaves us memories we will cherish of the Bob we knew.
Bob will be missed by his sons, Jason Haas, Bismarck, and Justin (Stephanie)
Haas, Washington; his daughter, Jackie (Neil) Null, Ind.; his grandchildren,
Jacob and April Leckenby and Kody Robert Haas; his stepdaughter, Rhonda Kraft,
Mandan; his sister, Marcie Flynn, Mandan; and his brother, Mike (Judy) Haas,
Bismarck.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; his parents; a brother, Jack
Haas; and a brother-in-law, Frosty Flynn.
