Michael and Magdalena Burkhartsmeier were married in 1907, and in 1910 moved northeast of Rugby near Spring Lake, In 1922 they moved to Webster, North Dakota and later retired in Portland, OR.
Michael was one of the wagon masters, along with his two brothers, Anton Sr and Peter, who brought 32 families to Pierce County in 1899. He died during the journey northward.
seems to be a flip-flop between the spelling BURKHARTSMEIER and BURKHARDSMEIER thru out this family He had it spelled Burgartsmeier in a biography he submitted to Mandan Volkszeitung in 1927, and it is spelled Burkhartsmeiers on his tombstone, and further, his son Christian is listed in the NDak Death Index as BURKHARTSMEIER with no S on the end. another had his first name as Michael, same birth and death years, so don't know if there is a mixup on this man.
