George Keller, 93, of Atwater, CA, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at home with his wife of 60 years Sadie Keller by his side. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church Tuesday, June 19 at 9 a.m. with interment at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery at 2 p.m. George was born in Fairbault, MN, to Julius and Rosella Keller on March 3, 1919. He was raised in Devils Lake, ND, along with his 15 brothers and sisters. He had a great love for family and friends. George was always quick with a joke or a good story. He had a love of music and marched in the Rose Bowl Parade. He graduated from Central High School and attended college at Pasadena Junior College. In 1942, George enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps later known as the United States Air Force. He served honorably for 20 years and was awarded the distinguished flying Cross, Presidential Unit Citation, seven oak leaf cluster air medal and various combat ribbons. He flew a B24 in the Pacific theater during WWII including the Battle of Iwo Jima and later flew the B26. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he continued to be involved in his love of flying when he worked in the civil service for the NTSB, Air America, Air Asia Taiwan, Saigon, and the S. Vietnam. George lived and worked in Saudi Arabia with the Saudi Royal Air Force. Following his retirement, he resided in Atwater, California. He is survived by his wife, Sadie; sons, Robert (his wife Mildred) and William Keller; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. With his passing, we have lost a true gentlemen, loyal friend, devoted father and family man and a loving husband. He was a hero to so many of us.
